Kizomba - the music
Kizomba was developed in Angola in
the eighties. It's a fusion of Semba (predecessor to Samba) with
Zouk from the French Caribbean. It has a slow and pounding African
rhythm created by electronic percussion. The African beat makes it
very sensuous and infectious. Kizomba is also popular in other
Portuguese speaking countries such as Cape Verde, Mozambique, São
Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea-Bissau and of course Portugal, with each
country adding its own flavour.

Kizomba - the dance
Kizomba is slow, smooth and sensual, and
is danced close with a partner. As some of the footwork and dance
patterns are similar to Tango we can call it 'African Tango'.
Although we add counting to enable us to learn steps, traditionally
Kizomba is danced according to feeling and musical interpretation.
